Hip-hop celebrity IGRATA changed on-stage performance with on-filed game. Event host Nasko Mihaylov traded his mike for a basketball. Top basketballers from Bulgarian clubs gathered in Sofia united by one mission – to play basketball in support of the Holiday Heroes
This Sunday the Bulgarian National Basketball League, BGO Software League and the Holiday Heroes summoned heroes from the world of basketball to Universiada sports hall. “There’s an enormous difference between playing on the basketball court and standing aside acting as coach. I can see now how difficult it is for a team to comply with what the coach has instructed, and why players tend to get so nervous”, explained Plamen Alexiev, who plays for BC Cherno More-Ticha and mentored one of the teams. He and other professional basketballers from various clubs across Bulgaria became holiday heroes, switching from playing basketball to mentoring teams for this occasion. The rest of the mentors of teams of socially responsible companies were Hristo Nikolov (BC Levski Lukoil), Konstantin Koev (BC Spartak-Pleven), Nikolay Nikolov (BC Beroe), Vasil Mihaylov (BC Academic Bultex 99) and Yordan Bozov from BC Rilski Sportist – a designated MVP and Bulgarian Cup winner.
The cup winners this time were Bayer’s team, mentored by Stoyan Petkov (BC Yambol). Yordan Bozov and his Stars Group team ranked second, while Visteon’s players, instructed by Vasil Mihaylov (BC Academic Bultex 99) got the bronze at this Sunday’s Sport with Mission traditional tournament. The basketball competition, held for the fourth time by Holiday Heroes, the Bulgarian National Basketball League and BGO Software League, was joined also by the companies ЕКО (a chain of gas stations), Lidl, Fadata, RЕDVERTEX. Everyone who played received presents from STR8 and B.U. Besides corporate teams, there was also a basketball team representing the Holiday Heroes. Part of it was a huge celebrity from the Bulgarian hip-hop stage – Igrata. To increase the funds raised from the event, BGO Software League put up for sale a limited line of sweatshirts with the aim of donating the proceeds to Holiday Heroes.
The good vibes at the Universiada sports hall on Sunday were thanks to event host Nasko Mihaylov and all devoted Holiday Heroes’ partners. My House restaurant provided a tasty meal of pizza baked in a wood-fired oven for all competitors. Lactima Balkan supplied refreshing yogurt drinks and iced teas, while AKVO contributed fruit-infused waters and isotonic sports drinks endorsed by the Polish Association of Professional Sports Coaches. For all players there were also tasty Belgian Roger’s chips and Hyper wafers by Prestige-96. Just before the quarterfinals an injury of a player prevented one of the teams from finishing their game. The injured competitor was promptly taken care of by the healthcare professionals from Paramedics, but for the team to continue their game, it was necessary for host Nasko Mihaylov to give up the mike and take up basketball during the said decisive game.
All funds raised in entry fees for participating teams will go to buy food for the holiday boxes which the Holiday Heroes will distribute this Easter 2018. Watch live the packing and delivery processes on the Holiday Heroes’ Facebook page, March 31st and April 1st.
