VMware Triumph in Go-Kart Race 2018

Legendary rally racer Dimitar Iliev and charismatic Leo Bianchi, who stars in the cooking reality show MasterChef, joined a kart-race fundraiser for corporate teams at Sofia Karting King

Holiday Heroes’ events from the Sport with a Mission series are the most eagerly awaited. Among them, karting is an undisputable all-time favorite.

The first tournament of the already popular sequence under this slogan was on Thursday evening, kindly hosted by Sofia Karting Ring. The race took place among eleven teams in total – ten representing socially responsible businesses, and one competing for the Holiday Heroes. Of that team, the most remarkable performance was that of Leo Bianchi, who demonstrated quite exceptional ability on the track. Something impressive about involvement was that two companies, KPMG IT Services and Fadata, took part with not one, but two representative teams. Bulstrad Vienna Insurance Group, HyperScience, Advanced Nutrients and Euroins Bulgaria insurance company sent out the rest of the competing teams.

Sports mentorship is already a tradition in Holiday Heroes’ tournaments, and this event was no exception. One of the mentors was stellar rally racer Dimitar Iliev, who during the opening ceremony appealed to all participants to drive with caution not only on the karting ring, but on the road as well. Other mentoring contributors were the extremely promising young car racer and 2015 champion Grigor Grigorov and Koko Varbitsaliev – the first Bulgarian driver to have participated in Formula BMW, a kart-racing champ and bronze winner for 2017 in the World Karting Championship for amateurs. The squad of mentors was completed by Danny Popov, Simeon Simeonov and the absolute speed record holder of Sofia Karting Ring Alex Yulian.

The team who took home the gold were VMware. The silver went to Ramus Laboratories, followed by KPMG IT Services Bulgaria. The winners got gift sets by STR8 and B.U. cosmetics, while Sarantis Bulgaria made sure the rest of the participants did not leave empty-handed. Snacks in the form of Hyper waffles were brought by Prestige-96, and all competitors were kept well hydrated by AKVO, who provided a stack of their isotonic sports drinks and fruit-infused waters.

Proceeds from teams’ entry fees will go to buy staple foods for the holiday boxes to be given away by the Holiday Heroes at Christmas 2018.
